I have been using Comicbase 15 for several months and would like to offer a couple of wish list suggestions that would be beneficial for the next version of Comicbase.
1. The ability to be able to run a report of completed sets within a collection.
2. The normally pale blue highlight that extends across the issue information cells/rows that indicates that an issue is in stock, should be made darker for easier/faster viewing.
3. When all issues of a particular title are in stock, Comicbase should have the ability to designate the title as "complete" and automatically add it to sets.
4. Please add the ability to print a comic books UPC barcode on a label. Not all books have a barcode or a barcode that is reachable without taking it out of its bag.
Out of all of these suggestions, please consider number 4. There are many Comicbase users that have had to re-catalog or re-re-catalog their collections from scratch. I myself have had to redo my collection twice by hand. The ability to print an external UPC label would be a welcomed addition.

FLUX85257, printing barcodes is already an option that I think is available in all versions of ComicBase.
Each title has a 4-digit code that is not necessarily consistent from database to database. Let's take Avengers vs. X-Men. In my database, that title's 4-digit code is AVXM (again, your database may have a different code).
Let's say you have a copy of Avengers vs. X-Men #0. You can "Jump to" (using Control J) and scan the UPC on the comic (75960607748900011). That will take you directly to the comic. You can also hit Control J to open to the "Jump to" window and then manually type AVXM0. That will also take you to the desired comic. You can also Jump to AVXM0-4 for #0 (4th Printing) or AVXM1/C for #1 (Variation C).
I have the archive edition. I can go to Report --> Comic Identification Labels. There is the ability for me to choose the title(s) and issue(s) I want, and then print labels. I can include barcodes if I want. The barcodes that will print are those codes I explained above. |

One glitch in the "complete set" concept is the variants. Do you consider a run that has all of the regular issues but no variants a complete set? Or must it have all issues AND variants as a complete set?
Thus far, Comicbase has been unable to understand that 1, 1/A, and 1-2 have a closer relationship than 1, 2, and 3. So it doesn't seem able to understand that if I have ANY issue where the issue number is "1", then I'm good in the "1" category.
Now, you can always use one of the custom Title checkboxes for this purpose and do it manually, but that can't be exported and I doubt it interacts with Atomic Avenue (if that's part of the goal).
So I don't disagree that it might be a good feature, but it would take some doing. |

Dear Reinharc,
I stand corrected and I am OVERJOYED to admit that I am wrong about the barcode/upc issue in my initial posting. In response to your post I gave it another try. I generated an ID label w/barcode and just for giggles I tried using that barcode to Batch-->Add Comics To Inventory. AND IT WORKED! I'm not sure what went wrong the first time, but it works now. I can't thank you enough for putting me on the right path!
Despite having database backups, I have suffered two database meltdowns and have had to recatalog 5000+ issues by hand, some of them without a barcode, which created a start/stop approach to reentering them in batches. Now (if calamity strikes again, and I hope not) I'll have the barcodes I need to quickly reconstruct my DB.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Flux, Here's a link to a tool that might help (if I do say so myself): http://www.atomicavenue.com/Community/Collection%20Hole%20Finder.zip
The tool is meant to parse through an exported database file to look for holes in a collection (although it does suffer the same limitation Glenn mentions above, for the same reasons); I'm sure it could be used to determine what titles DON'T have holes. Bear in mind that it's several years old, so may not work 100% perfectly, but I'm sure the author can be reached for assistance ;)
