So I made the mistake of uninstalling the main ComicBase program instead of Update 3 (to update to Update 4). I went to reinstall CB and the main program keeps hanging after starting the program for the first time after installing. I see it doing something to the database, but it keeps hanging. I went as far as to try to remove all references to CB from my computer (that I could find) including the registry. The problem is now it still wants to find an existing database instead of creating a new one, and I don't have the option to create a new database with the assistant that pops up as an option (unselectable option), as well as trying to find the preference ini file that was also deleted.
Short of reinstalling Windows, what else needs to be done for me to be able to perform a fresh install of CB without these issues? I don't mind if I have to completely re-add my comics (though I think I'd be ok if I could do a fresh install then apply Update 4, then point CB to the last DB backup I have). |

try deleting your ComicBase Preferences.ini file then launch the software afterwards
The file is located under Your Username/Computer>AppData>Roaming>Human Computing>ComicBase

I've already done that, and when I select the the database assistant that should otherwise let me select to use an existing database or create a new one (it still tries to find the existing database at the location I had on the previous install before uninstalling CB), I get the warning that it can't find the ComicBase Preferences.ini. I close the warning and it closes everthing for CB.
If I create a blank version, all I get is a notice that my preferences have been reset, but I am still stuck with the assistant not allowing me to create a new database, it looking for the previous database (as if there is something else with the information on where the prior database is located), and it leaving the ComicBase Preferences.ini blank while still locking up if I put the previous database back in the old location.
TL;DR: I've tried it and no go. It still is trying to use the old settings. It won't even start without even a blank ComicBase Preference.ini existing at the required location, and will not fill in a blank version of the Preferences on new start. |
