In 1954, Daily Planet cub reporter Jimmy Olsen got a title of his own. Always on the lookout for a story, Jimmy wound up embarking on a long series of humorous adventures, taking him from undersea cities to encounters with aliens. If the action got too hot, Jimmy could use his signal watch to call Superman for a rescue. Indeed, it seemed like not an issue went by that Superman wasn’t saving Jimmy from one menace or another.

Jimmy had several chances to become a super-hero during the course of this series. At different times, he became Elastic Lad, Flamebird, and even giant ape Congorilla. In the end, however, he always decided that super-heroing was not for him. Possibly, this was because he was so busy chasing after Lucy Lane, Lois Lane’s sister.
