Casper the Friendly Ghost (1st Series)

    (St. John, 1949-1958)

Harvey begins as publisher with issue #7. The issue that would have been #6 was published as Harvey Comics Hits #61.

This is the series that started it all off for Harvey. After a successful one-shot appearance in a Famous Studios animated cartoon called The Friendly Ghost in 1945, Paramount commissioned more episodes and licensed its new star to St. John publishing for comic books. Five issues appeared before St. John “gave up the ghost” and Harvey took over. Issue 6 doubled as Harvey Comics Hits #61, then Harvey continued the series properly with #7. With #70, Harvey had purchased the rights to Casper and all references to Paramount were removed and this series was replaced by The Friendly Ghost, Casper.
