Legend of the Hawkman
(DC, 2000)
™ and © DC Comics
Archeologists in Tibet have made an amazing discovery. A set of gigantic stone doors emblazoned with Hawkman’s chest insignia and hieroglyphs that recount an ancient Thanagarian myth about Thasaro. He was a fallen god who rose from the depths of hell to threaten Thanagar with his demonic minions, only to be laid low by a lone warrior named Hol—Hawkman’s Thanagarian surname, by the way. Well and good, right? Wrong. Things take a turn for the worse when Thasaro rises again—on Earth, this time—to exact his vengeance against Hol and his descendants, which means that the Silver Age Hawkman and his wife, the high-flying Hawkgirl, are in more than just a spot of trouble.
This return to the Silver Age of Comics was originally intended to be a story arc in Legends of the DC Universe. But with a new Hawkman set to debut in the pages of JSA and the release of the Hawkman Archives hardcover, Legend of the Hawkman became an excellent three-issue Prestige Format limited series from writer Ben Raab (Beast Boy, Union Jack) and artist Michael Lark (Terminal City, Superman: War of the Worlds).
