This four-issue series is an adaptation of the movie of the same name. That said, those familiar with adaptations know there are two types of adaptations: those that adapt, and those that do not—or, to be nice about it, those that take liberties. There are fans of both types.

Chris Ryall has created an incredibly faithful adaptation of the movie. So much so, in fact, that if you’ve seen the movie there is almost no suspense over what will happen next: you already know. It is rare to see an adaptation that follows the original material so closely. There are a few parts in which the dialogue is noticeably different, but that’s a matter of space. For example, the scene in which Shaun takes a personal call at work with a coworker looking on could not have run in the comic book as long as it did onscreen.

For fans of loyal adaptations, this is probably a three-star mini-series. For those who like to see some liberties taken and fun had with the source material, you’ll probably consider this more of a two-star effort.
