Caliber Comics’, “Gabriel,” a one-shot, premiered in 1995. This black-and-white title is set in a revisionist Scotland where the Reformation never occurred and religious police scan the country seeking out all doubters of God’s word. A demon known as Bacillus wreaks havoc while on a murderous tear throughout the city, with religious figures his favorite targets. A man named Stewart Gabriel, who seems normal, begins to have dreams that somehow link him to these macabre happenings, and cause him to believe that he is a descendant of Jesus Christ.

After being reunited with his ex-wife, Donna, the two are arrested by the religious police, also known as the Knights of the Saint Templar. While Stewart is questioned by the local religious order, the Living Saints, Bacillus attacks the church. Can Gabriel manage to escape and stop this murderous demon from destroying everything he holds dear?
