Jackie Gleason
(St. John, 1955)
©1955 News Syndicate Co.
Looking to achieve another success after their successful Mighty Mouse in 3-D comic book, St. John decided to publish a celebrity-based comic book similar to DC’s Adventures of Bob Hope or Adventures of Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. St. John turned to Jackie Gleason, who was a very popular television personality of his day appearing on his own variety show that spawned a successful spin-off sitcom called The Honeymooners. But by this time, St. John was not doing very well and soon lost the licensing agreement to DC, who replaced this title with their own Jackie Gleason and the Honeymooners.
