Phil Grayfield was an up-and-coming pro football player when injuries ended his career. He got a second chance at fame when he was hired by Sports Inside as a star field reporter. As a reporter, Grayfield’s first assignment was to interview Rudy Custer, the inventor of an experimental football uniform. But Custer was also a football collector—and his collection had piqued the interest of a group of thieves, who robbed Custer, set fire to his home, and tied up Grayfield inside the burning building—leaving him to be killed.

In the swirl of smoke and chemicals from the burning collection, a remarkable chemical combination occurred—giving the stranded Grayfield enhanced athletic powers and abilities which he used to escape. Now, as NFL SuperPro, he has made it his mission to defend football from the gamblers, extortionists, and racketeers who would corrupt it.
