Sun-Runners

    (Pacific, 1984-1985, 1987)
™ and ©1984 Roger McKenzie and Patrick Broderick
#4–7 by Eclipse

Sun-Runners takes place in a future where the distribution of energy requires a network that spans thousands of worlds. On a huge power station called Daybreak, a group led by Mark Dancer acts as troubleshooters, patching up problems both mechanical and humanoid. Dancer’s crew includes Delphi, the ship’s captain and a powerful psychic; Doctor Gibraltar, an elephant-like powerhouse who is also a near-genius; and Scooter, their sentient engineering robot.

Sun-Runners was one of the raft of creator-owned comics produced by independent Pacific Comics in the mid-1980s. It featured art by Pat Broderick (Firestorm, Micronauts), as well as early color work by Steve Oliff (who would later become famous for his Olyoptics computer coloring for Image Comics).
