Just wondering, but are the cover scans significantly bigger on the blu-ray discs and CB's database?

I'm asking because sometimes the image I'll have is kinda smaller, I'll scan a larger version and it will say that it's already got a larger version.

I'm also thinking about the blu-ray version for the next update and just wondering if there's an image size difference between the regular picture discs and the blu-ray discs.

That is my hope but we will have to see what happens...

So I'm assuming CB16 will be unveiled at Comic-Con?

In my experience the Summer disc is a bit hit & miss in the timing dept. due to Comic-Con as mark stated & sometimes Pete's work on each new version of ComicBase, (but right now we know that is another story.)

They do make the discs come out on quicker in the Winter to make up for the bottleneck IMNSHO.

All efforts are being put into our exhibit at San Diego Comic-Con in a few days. It's definitely on our to do list for after the Con.

Sorry, shipping week of 3/19/2012. Awaiting on a disc media refill coming early next week.
mcastaneda Posted - 03/08/2012 : 13:32:04
We'll be shipping them out next week.
immortalthor Posted - 03/03/2012 : 06:21:53
Shouldn't the next bluray disc have shipped out by now?

1) What I meant though was that it has the Atomic Avenue watermark on it, which I was lead to believe would NOT be on any of the covers on the discs.

2) I meant that the disc had a smaller scan on it, so I scanned a larger version and tried to submit it through ComicBase, but CB didn't try to upload the cover. Same thing with the cover for Annihilation: Conquest Bk 2. It's a smaller scan with a watermark so I tried to submit a bigger scan without the AA watermark but your server wouldn't accept it.
mcastaneda Posted - 11/28/2011 : 11:44:51
1) The disc contains whatever covers we have at the time the disc was pressed. Some will have watermarks. When the next quarterly disc is released, hopefully the real scan will be available.

2) There's a chance that your scan didn't make into the disc. Due to the volume of corrections we get on a daily basis, editorial may have not had a chance to review your correction/cover submission.

Got my blu-ray disc yesterday and have been redoing my covers with it, but now I have a couple of questions.

1) I was under the impression that none of the images would have watermarks on them. The cover for Annihilation: Conquest Bk 2 has a watermark on it. But when I tried to submit mine, it didn't accept it.

2) It was also my understanding that these are the largest files on the CB/AA server, yet when I try to submit a larger scan, it doesn't accept it either.

Wha' happin?

Ah, okay. So Q3 is that recent then. Cool.
mcastaneda Posted - 11/17/2011 : 09:26:57
We just finished the Quarter 3 2011 disc last week. Now shipping.
immortalthor Posted - 11/17/2011 : 06:19:25
When are you expecting to do the next pressing?
mcastaneda Posted - 11/16/2011 : 10:12:23
we press 4 quarterly blu-ray discs a year. If you order today you get the current 3rd quarter disc. You will be automatically mailed 3 future quarterly discs as part of your subscription.

Whatever is currently in our picture library for a quarterly disc is what you would get, that will include some preliminary art
immortalthor Posted - 11/16/2011 : 04:53:00
Another question. Let's say I upgrade to the blu-ray version today. Would the discs be burned off today (as in, would the images be the current ones), or would the discs be older, from like a year ago?

Oh yeah, and would the blu-ray discs have any preliminary artwork on them?

I understand not every cover is large size, but that's what I was wondering, it's the largest that they have on file.

Okay cool. I'm a step closer to deciding. Now about the price........

Yeah, the entire library. When you install them, you have the option to replace lower quality images so you don't end up re-adding covers that haven't changed.

Depending on your previous version, the upgrade price can vary. From CB14 Pro/Archive or CB15 Pro/Archive its $299. If you're already a Bluray customer, then its $199

I think it is just easier for HC to create on Blu-Ray Master that is used both for the Quarterly Updates and any Blu-Ray Archive edition purchases. Besides, if they only do the Updates it could probably be sent out on a DVD.

Immortalthor, as far as I know...

The entire set of cover scans at the full size that HC has are included on the Blu-Ray discs. This doesn't mean all the images are large. If all they have is a 71 X 55 cover, that is all that is supplied.

It is difficult (read next to impossible) to get you how many cover scans are in various Picture Height / Width ranges due to a display limit on the Advanced Find.

The quarterly update includes the entire library every time.

The only difference is the Cover Scans and the Quarterly Updates. By the way, the quarterly updates do NOT have the Atomic Avenue watermark that the downloads do.

Got a few questions regarding the blu-ray version. I currently use the Archive edition and am considering upgrading.

To anyone that uses the blu-ray edition, hopefully you can help me out here.

I'm assuming the the program and the entire image library, full-sized, not micronized like the DVD version is, show up on the initial blu-ray set. Is this correct? I'm asking because on the DVD sets, the images are roughly 650 pixels wide but apparently the images on the CB servers are considerably larger.

The quarterly updates. Is this the entire image library again, or is it just what's new/updated?

Mcastaneda told me that they hope to have something out by the end of this month. Can you at least tell me what the price would be to upgrade from Archive to Blu-Ray? I know that there's usually an initial sale price, do you know what it might be?

Besides the images and the quarterly disc updates, is there any other differences?
immortalthor Posted - 11/04/2011 : 20:11:56
Okay, I'm a little confused. When I go to submit a cover scan, and it tells me I have an image bigger than what's on the CB server, is it referring to the file quality size (dpi), the image size (1280p wide), or the file size (1 meg)?
mcastaneda Posted - 11/04/2011 : 13:08:59
Not all the pictures are at a specific size. I'd say the majority are saved well over 100dpi.
immortalthor Posted - 11/03/2011 : 12:05:03
Hello? Bueller?
immortalthor Posted - 10/13/2011 : 17:32:15
Are they bigger than that?
immortalthor Posted - 10/13/2011 : 11:05:54
Basically I was referring to the image size. I've been scanning mine at 100dpi with a width of 1280.
mcastaneda Posted - 10/13/2011 : 11:02:21
The blu-ray edition pictures are much better in quality when compared to the DVD version, less compressed. Depending on what you are personally scanning your covers at, there are times when your scans may be bigger than the one's on the blu-ray disc. Hope that answers your questions.
