I know some people buy the 1 in 10, 1 in 25 and such variant covers.
My question is do you feel you must buy all the covers of a book that offers more than one cover per issue.
Examples of this has been the current "Fanboys vs. Zombies" almost every Zenescope titles, and every issue of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer".
We have some customers at the store who ask us to pull all covers, do you do this?

| I used to do this with the Dynamite titles (Red Sonja, Queen Sonja, etc), but have since stopped due to the sheer cost. If I can get a 1:10 cover I do, but otherwise I'll just pick the regular cover that I like best. Later at a con I'll see about maybe picking up the other covers if I can get them cheap. |

| As a general rule, no, I do not 'buy in' to the extra covers. Once in a great while, I might see a cover that I really like and may get the 'extra' one. Most often this is the diptych type set where the two covers make one 'complete' picture. |

I do not purchase variant covers and dislike the practice immensely. In my opinion, it is a blatant attempt to inflate sales numbers with no real value to the collector/reader. Unfortunately, it works well enough to keep the practice going. I especially loath the "1:XX" variants, as these books will sell for ridiculous multiples of cover price simply because they are artificially "scarce". A year or two later these same books end up as "swag" in my Diamond order or part of a BOGO for the latest Marvel 80% off sale. In the long run, who cares enough about these covers to sustain their inflated prices past a few months or couple of years? Rather than having 3 or 4 covers every issue for every title (think Dynamite) and 1:10,1:25,1;50 variants, why not spend the time creating a REALLY exceptional cover that draws in new readers? A cover that sets up the story inside, instead of "1 of xxx" pose and portrait covers that tell you nothing about the book you are about to buy. Let the market set the price as time proves these covers to be "iconic" or special in someway the collector/reader values. .... But ... then the publisher doesn't get THAT piece of the pie ... So ... the variant cover pick-pocketing will continue I suppose. |

| Normally, I only buy one copy of an issue, regardless of the number of variants available. Sometimes that is a variant, but only if it is cover price, and only if it is my favorite of those available. An exception is when I buy a "lot" of comics that has multiple variants. While I think internal and external art are important, I buy comics primarily for the story. |
