I know that a big part of CB is the ability to sell on AA, which you can't do with digital comics, but it is also primarily used as a tracking system by a good portion of its users. The facts are that there are a lot of companies these days that are releasing digital-only issues or comics, but these aren't currently included in the database. For example, DC is releasing a weekly Legends of the Dark Knight comic, and Mark Waid is releasing a weekly series called Insufferable. There's no news on whether or not these would ever be available as printed comics (collected or otherwise). The other situation is when there's a printed comic series that is canceled because of low sales, and the remaining issue or issues are only distributed digitally. This is the case with the most recent Doc Savage series by DC, which was canceled right before their line-wide relaunch. The seventeenth issue was the last one released, but it contained a "To be continued..." caption on the last page. Just this week, DC released the actual final issue (#18) on its website; there are likely no plans to ever publish this. As the current system is set up for the CB program, this series would only show seventeen issues as being released, which is incorrect if someone actually wants to read the complete run.
I know it's likely a pain to keep track of digital comics because, as things stand, there's no release schedule, nothing in Previews or on Diamond's site, and no other indication of when an issue comes out. However, I do feel like that over the next few years this will be more and more commonplace.
Has CB given any thought to this or gave the inclusion of digital comics consideration? |

Ah, I missed those threads, though those look like they're just asking for some way to track that the individual downloaded a digital version (most likely of comics that also exist in a printed format). Mine was more about the database inclusion of digital-only books in the official weekly updates. I wouldn't necessarily expect digital copies of every single issue out there to be included in these updates, if it's something that already exists in a printed format, just those issues/titles that are only available in that particular format.
Still, hopefully whenever the next CB version comes out there, there is a solution to satisfy the digital quandary.
Thanks for pointing out the other threads, though. It's good to know that there is some other interest out there. |

| On a list of desired features and capabilities, tracking digital comics is pretty close to the bottom of my wish list. |
