Fantastic Four 2099
(Marvel, 1996)
™ and ©1995 Marvel Characters, Inc.
Marvel Comics introduced its line of 2099 comics in 1992 as a place where Marvel could reinvent some of its more famous characters. The Marvel Universe of 2099 is a bleak place where corporations battle for control over the world. Most of the characters in the 2099 line were new heroes who were inspired by their earlier counterparts, such as Spider-Man 2099, Ghost Rider 2099, and Punisher 2099.
In 1996, Marvel added this new comic to the line. The Fantastic Four had been held prisoner in the neutral zone for 100 years. When they finally break free, they find a world of which they know nothing. Rumors abound that they are not the real Fantastic Four, and that they are really test subjects or clones. Almost the entire planet is after them in some way or another. To make matters worse, Dr. Doom (Doom 2099) is the president. The series chronicles the team’s adventures in this strange new world.
