Hello - I'd like some clarification on how notes are displayed and whether they are overwritten by weekly updates.
I generally add comments about a book (1st appearances not already listed in ComicBase, incentive ratios, print runs, etc) to the Notes field. Sometimes I insert the data within the existing text, and sometimes I add a semi colon at the end and add my info at the end. I don't always submit new or corrected data.
I've noticed that sometimes, in spite of cleaning it up, the notes section will apparently get updated with almost duplicate data (perhaps my updated content and the previous content). I'm also concerned my data might get overwritten altogether (which would really suck because I spend a lot of time researching the information).
Is there a best practice for adding information so it stays in your comicbase database and is displayed on your own listing, without the risk of the data being overwritten? Is there a resource that explains all this functionality?

Yeah, I decided to do just that. Getting those duplicate values or something about a book being signed when it is not is not worth getting updates. I'll make sure the books I list will have the right notes. I'm always adding the ratio info on an incentive variant, or the print run, or certain cover artist detail that is important. Drives me crazy that the cover artist isn't listed on the actual AA listing. In this age of variant covers by really hot artists, the cover artist is more important than the interior artist. Purists hate it, but its the current reality of the market.
Thank you for all the responses.

I'd recommend exactly what comicsrdr mentioned. I weighed getting no updates from other CB users vs missing out on helpeful information that they're submitting but the chance of getting wrong/bad/duplicate data from other users won out so I disabled updates. I got entries in my database from CB that said a book was signed or autographed .... when, it's definitely was not. That was the final straw that convinced me to ditch updates.

Thank you for the responses. The thing I'm most interested in is adding notes that will be displayed on my listing.
I also do, however, want note updates when they are made as others may be adding helpful information but not if I'll be losing my own notes. .
So considering those two key things, Where can I enter notes I want to keep and which I want displayed? Is it safest to just put them in the grading notes as what is displayed on the AA listings seem to be a combo of Notes and Grading Notes, and that info is not adjusted by weekly updates?

You can also set up one of the extra custom fields as "Extra Notes" and enter your specific notes separate from the supplied "Notes" field. Not sure if it available in all versions of CB. I have the Archive edition.
This is what I have done. This would not be affected by updates and is unique to your database.

fourstar77, there is a setting you can change to block the updater from adding to your notes field, which is probably what's happening, based on your description. On the updater screen, there is a box in the lower left labeled "advanced..." Click on this box, and a dialog box opens with 3 choices. Select "don't allow updater to add to existing notes." I hope this helps.
